Scope on a Ported Revolver
I'm thinking of putting a scope on a ported Taurus 44 mag. Will the porting mess up the scope? Anybody have any info on this ?

Ports do release hot effluvia that would normally exit the gun barrel. It tends to darken whatever it reaches. I have a Magna-Ported S&W 629 and after shooting a couple of cylinders, it darkens the orange front sight insert making it hard to see. I have to wipe it off repeatedly and then I still need to clean it when I get home. The heat seems to bake the smokey mess onto whatever it touches. My guess is this will not be a problem for a scope if there's a couple of inches between the port holes and the glass at the front end of the scope.

I would get a clear lens cover/cap for the front objective so you aren't having to clean the lens itself after a lot of shooting. If it gets pitted or damaged it can just be changed out. 0 -
I do not like "porting" on any arm and would not purchase one for myself. Absolutely too loud-even with ear protection-dirty-YES-.
Have no idea about clouding up a scope-perhaps. It is a handgun and does not require a scope! A .44 Mag is not difficult to manage for many people. Think twice about the scope mounting and intended usage.

What is the barrel length? If it is 6+ in and you get a fixed power scope it may not even be a consideration. Also most ports a directed at a angle away from the center line of the barrel so by the time it would (the hot gasses) reach the level of the barrel it should be far enough from the lens to not be a problem. I have seen other ported handguns with a scope but have never owned one.

I would mount the scope and not worry about it. 0 -
I have the same tarus your asking about have an aimpoint on mine and have had no problems. 0 -
Just an idea. Why not mount a holographic sight--small light and would be well back from the front of the barrel.

GPWEAPON, where did you get your mount for the aimpoint? I have seen mounts for the 608 and I am wondering if they will fit my 44 0 -
I believe I got the mount at Cheaper than Dirt there was only one basic mount available and it fit fine and I think the aimpoint had the weaver base rings with it and it attached perfect. 0 -
