REMO POPULAR SHOTGUN
Need some information on a bolt action shotgun.The item is marked Remo popular-Made in Germany-Patented.Barrel is marked Nitro with proof marks.Serial number#9888 on most parts.12 gauge--Barrel is about 29 inches long.Pistol grip is checkerd.This is a wall hanger only.Some small cracks in the stock,with about 25% bluing left.Appears two hold 2 extra shells.What if any value on this item? A fellow worker at My job owns this.I may buy it from him,but need a price. I am thinking of offering about $20.00?--I am using it for a wall hanger only Thanks,

Personally, I think a bolt-action shotgun is harder to get a second shot than a single-shot. I'd just use it for a wall-hanger as you suggested. I wouldn't give much for it considering the condition, you should be able to find a bolt-action shotgun at nearly any used gun shop/pawn shop...

These were made on 98 Mausers after WWI, not very reliable, not very strong, not safe to shoot, not as desirable as modern bolt actions.

Hello again, this is not built on a Mauser action.I own eight 98 Mausers and it looks nothing like them.The receiver is larger than a Mauser and has a very different shape.The thing that looks like a safety issue to Me is the only thing to lock the bolt is
the root of the bolt handle.

In the article he says "I don't believe it to be entirely a conversion, but rather partly or entirely manufactured as a shotgun".
The Geha is definetly a converted 98.
No real close-up pictures of the Remo action in the article,- like those of the Geha.
The bolt is locked only by the safety lug on the Geha. Not sure how the Remo is locked.
With all their faults they still make good wall-hangers.0 -
i happen to have one of each, i bough the geha as an example of what you can do with the '98 mauser and the remo out of curiosity. it looks like the remo is a later design that borrowed a few design features from the geha. as for the lock-up on them many of the cheaper u.s. bolt action shotguns use the bolt handle for lock up to. if in good condition and complete both are safe to shoot with the ammo they were designed for (no magnums). the geha has a bad habit of the bolt head falling out. 0 -
Hi,thank you all for your replys.As I stated in my first posting I am just looking for some old rifles I can stick on the wall.I have a Mosin Nagant 91/30,a mauser 98 VZ24,and the Remo 12 gauge.All are well used,but will make good wall displays.I will remove the firing pins from them just in case? Well I bought it today.$20.00--The person selling it said if had not bought it,he was going to throw it away.He told me he had no use for it.He said he has a few guns,but has no use for a shotgun.I would put a picture on here,but I am on a Webtv unit and don't know how to do it yet.
