Sig 226 magazines

I am having trouble with Sig 226 magazines! In the last six months I have had 4 malfunctioning magazines... (failure to feed weak spring, and magazine floor plate seperation) Is their a fix or an alternate after market brand to try?

  You shouldn't be having problems with SIG mags. Are these the 10 Round plastic bottom ones? I don't like them, but I have a bunch of high-caps which work fine. I'd send your defective mags to SIG for repair/replacement. I've had decent luck with high cap Pro Mags.

  Are the ones you are having problems with "factory" mags? Or are they after-market ones? 10 round or high cap?
  
  I have heard that Wilson is making mags for the Sig 226, they have been making quality mags for the 1911 for years.

  As the brand of magazine that you are having trouble with is not mentioned, I would assume that they are not factory and for that matter may not even have a name on them. You'll find that if they are cheap and/or there are no markings on them, they probably aren't worth buying. You'll find the factory Sig or MecGar magazines will peform well. All others, you try at your own risk. If you thought well enough to buy a quality gun like the Sig, you should probably not try to go cheap on the mags. I have both the SIG and the MecGar mags available in both the high capacity and the 10rd.
  
  Unfortunately I constantly see people buying GOOD guns and then having problems with them when using cheap ammo or cheap mags. Rarely is it the fault of the gun itself. Try a better grade of mag and or ammo and you will most likely see your problems disappear. LRARMSX@MCHSI.COM

  Thanks for the input. However, these magazines are all factory. Two were provided with the gun when purchased, two more purchased after the first magazines failed. Less than 1000 rounds through any of the magazines. The most recent failures are feed related, weak follower spring, slide closing on an empty chamber. Has Sig "out sourced" magazines to a low bider? These magazines are 10 rounders, are the hi-capasity magazines better quality? Thanks..

  As far as I know, MecGar makes the "factory" mags, but they are of excellent quality. I've a gut feeling that the hi-cap is made better, but you can't prove that. I'm assuming you are using factory ammo or flawless reloads. I'm also assuming you clean your mags once in a while and that you rotate loaded mags once every six months or so if you keep it full for self defense. If your problems are from the mag, you should send the mags to SIG.

  JD, these mags have the SIG name on the side? They have the hollowed out plastic bottom? I don't mean to be rude, I'm just surprised. Normally you won't see the problems you describe in factory mags.

  I have never heard of a problem with a hi-cap factory mag, but then again, this is the first time I have heard of any problem with factory mags of any capacity. I do not have any 10 rounders, just hi-caps. So I can not comment on 10 rounders.
  
  As for the floor plate separation, do you drop these on the floor, like they do in competition? How/when do they come apart? It could be because, when they were cleaned, they were not "snapped" back into place.
  
  What kind of ammo are you using? On several occasions I have heard of feed problems because of ammo.
