The only Bay State Arms I am aware of from that era was Bay State Arms of Worchester, Mass. and they were in business in 1874. I think they produced two types of rifles- both types were single shot, one being a .32RF Falling Block and the other a target model produced in a wide range of calibers and specifications. The company also produced a 12 gauge shotgun under an agreement with W.H. Davenport of Rhode Island.

Our own Capt. Kirk is a true expert on these pre 1900 commercial firearms, but I understand he had to be taken to the hospital today for tests, so you may have to wait a little while for more complete information on this question as this is not my area of expertise.

I spoke to soon. I found some information in my 6th edition Flaydermans which was'nt in the ist edition. Bay State Arms was bought out by Hopkins and Allen. They were in business from 1888 to 1892. Has anyone had any experience with them.

My Father had an old Bay State Single shot shotgun, My brother has it now. Ive always wondered about it and never could find any info on it. All of us boys learned how to hunt with that old gun!

I have a Bay State single-shot ...if I remember right, in 20 gauge, or maybe 10 (haven't had it out for quite a while). It's a little thing, about carbine length, with a stainless barrel, nice furniture, and a waiting list of friends, if I ever want to sell it.
