Colt 1911 Factory Engraved Premier Editions

Do you think they are a good investment?

Only 500 made, 14 kt. gold Colt pony on one side and Colt dome on opposite side of slide, 3-dot dovetail front and rear sights.

I'd like to start buying one true "investment" firearm per year -- is this a good candidate for the first one?

  Firearms, in general, are a poor place to invest.
  
  Tarted up Colts are even worse. If you think it's pretty, and you would enjoy owning it,fine. But don't think of it as an investment. You will be throwing your money away.

  As much as I love Colts, I'll have to agree that it would probably be a poor investment if you are looking for increasing value. If you are looking for appreciation try most any of the quality American made SxS shotguns in as small of a gauge as you can afford. Just my opinion.

  If you want to invest in Colts, antiques are the best. They keep rising in value year by year. Buy pieces in extra fine condition. They will cost you more but they will appreciate more. By antiques, I mean made as early as possible either in Colt history or in type or model history. Colt history dates back into the 1840s. Type/model history example is 1900 for Colt automatic pistols.
