GUN SAFE HELP
I AM TRYING TO PICK A REASONALE GUNSAFE,ROUNDED TO CANNON(CANNON SERIES),FRONTIER (MAVERICK SERIES),AND LIBERTY (COLONIAL SERIES)ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

I've had a Browning safe for a number of years and have been very satisfied but my collection, or as my wife says, my conglomeration of guns outgrew one safe. She bought me a Cannon for Christmas, bless her heart, and it is also a very well built safe. The Cannon is also "fire rated" where the Browning is not so I've moved my more valuable, to me at least, guns to the Cannon. Please consider a fire rated model as they are worth the extra cost IMHO.

I got a Liberty from the local Liberty dealer here in DFW. Free delivery, and couldn't be happier with it. The price was reasonable too. It seemed to be of better quality when comparing it to a similar Browning at Outdoor World. 0 -
Todd, keep in mind that if you have scoped rifles, they will take up 2 to 3 spaces. My safe got small very fast. 0 -

Have a Liberty 30x22x60 safe that can hold up to 26 rifles. It is fire rated 30 min. at 1250 degrees. I beleive I gave $780.00 (including tax) for it at a gun show. I waited until the show was just over to make my deal (it wasn't easy) knowing the seller didn't want to load it and haul it back with him and loose a sell. He was put out a little when I told him I had a lift on my truck and the $150.00 he charged for delivery wouldn't be nessessary.
Note! It is wise to anchor the safe to the floor and wall to help prevent theft of the safe. I have seen 1,200 lb. safes hauled off by prepared theives![8)]0 -
When researching safes I went to the fire department to see what they could lend. The chief said unless you live within 5 minutes of the department, a fire safe may not be worth the extra money. He said most house fires are much hotter than the ratings, and most often the guns are cooked. He recommended spending the money on gun insurance if you have expensive collectible guns. The insulation only helps during the early stages of a distructive fire. If the fire isnt too bad you dont need it anyway. I took his advice and hope I never have to find out. 0 -
Buy bigger than you think you need. If they say 26 guns, I think they mean 26 single shot shotguns. You add bolt actions scoped rifles and bench rest guns. You will never fit 26. I found mine to only hold about 20 guns. 0 -
I had one made of one eighth inch sheet steel. Made by an outfit that makes dump truck bodies. Cost a lot less than one of the fancy ones. Not pretty and little fire protection. 0 -
When you deside which safe you want be sure to get the "touch pad" combination lock. It takes about 10 seconds or less to open this type of lock vs. the old 4L 3R 2L 1R and it still dosen't open, and I belive the touch type is rated higher than the tumbler style. The only down side is my wife has more stuff in there than I do. 0 -
I am pleased with my liberty- have fifteen guns in it and have room for 7-8 more. Paid 800.00 I don't think a 1200.00 safe would make it thru a house fire any better than a 800.00 safe. I believe it's more for security, make sure you lag them all down 0 -
Take a look at Weatherby gun safes. As they were built by american securities . they have Weatherbys added features and the price will suprise you compared to that of american securities. 0 -
Thanks for all your help,,,I just had a 40X28X61 Cannon Traditional series delivered last night.It has a touch pad lock, 5 spoke handle, gloss paint,and is fire rated 1500 deg. for 30 min. I went with Cannon because all safes I was considering had lifetime waranty,but Cannon includes shipping with thiers .Hope I never need it,,,,thanks again,, RONK7716
