remove blueing
Is there a solution or some kind of chemical mixture thet will remove blueing rather quickly. I have a 28 ga. muzzle loading barrel that has been factory blued and I want to remove it to brown the barrel instead. If so where can I purchase it or what do I need to mix together to soak the barrel in?
Any help appreciated and yes I know that most people want to preserve their blueing but some body has to be different.[8D]

I believe Hoppes makes some specific bluing remover, but not everyone carries it. Next best: Good ole NAVAL JELLY. Everybody carries it in the paint section. 0 -
Before going to the trouble to remove the blue, try the brown process without removing it, such as in a place that won't show such as under the fore arm. Depending on the kind of blue and the kind of brown you will use, it can work fine. Naval jelly will remove most blues, not that I reccommend it for that purpose. 0 -
Blue Wonder gun cleaner with a green scotch brite pad will take the blueing right off. It will also be clean and ready for the Browning.

Birchwood Casey makes a remover. What it is made of is sulfuric acid and water. 0 -

I HAVEN'T TRIED THE STEEL WHITE AS MENTIONED ABOVE, BUT BROWNELL'S SELLS A BLUE AND RUST REMOVER THAT IS A MILD ACID AND IT WORKS GREAT. ITEM #082-054-032 0
