.308 surrplus ammo

I recently purchased some .308 ammo and i am curious as to the history of it, i believe it is british it is stamped RG 84. What do these markings mean. any help is much appreciated!

  Yes, this is British - Radway Green (one of their primary small arms ammo arsenals), mfg 1984.

  thanks for the info iconoclast its good to be around people that know what they're tallking about eventhough i usually don't. anyway does anyone have any feedback on this ammo is it any good, how can i find out the weight of the projectile?

  It's a standard NATO loading, 150gr @ 2750. (Note: that velocity is taken at 78ft so to see a actual MV of 2800 can be expected IMO).
  Mil. Spec. calls for a 5" max radius (10" group) at 600yd (7.5" rad @ 600yd for the link pack stuff), so it's accurate enough for most people.
  I've used it for breaking in barrels, and 1" 100yd groups wasn't unusual during break-in.

  I recieved some Austrian and German ammo from Century Arms on their "Shooter's Special". The boxes were not marked so I am at a loss to know origin. Head stamps are "HP .308 7.62x51" and "11FLB82 7.62x51". Anyone know these and where to get a book /info on head stamps. Best, Robert

  I've been wondering how that ammo really looks. Is it just tarnished or pretty nasty? I got some "tarnished" ammo once and it was green with corrosion.

  Not bad shape, especialy for $119-29 shipped! The HP stuff was shinny with a small amount of green around primer and the other has a dull brass tarnish. Country of origin anyone? Best, Robert

  "HP" = Hirtenberg Patrone - Austria (sorry, I didn't notice you wanted the country)
  
  "FLP" = damifino - damifino, but as Tailgunner's decryption indicated, the year of mfg would be 1982, while the '11' or '12' would be either months or lots.
  
  I use an older reference, Cartridge Headstamp Guide by White and Munhall, but that was published in 1963. Not at all unlikely a newer or redesignated company / arsenal headstamp would be missing from it. You will find a long list of ammo references on this site:
