the cheap ones will get you killed , if you're looking for a lower price gun that you can count on working then look at the Kel Tec p-32 32acp , 9-11 9 mm both very good guns , sell new in the $250 range , used $150 to $200 0 -
I cringe when someone asks that question. Do you mean real weapons or boat anchor class? 0 -

FHPtrooper,
If your handle stands for Florida Highway Patrol, you should be able to get discounts for being a LEO on new firearms.
If not, then I would look into used S&W Model 10's that are LEO turn ins. Some have been as little as $120.00 in good condition. For semi-autos, I again would look for something used such as Colt 1911, 1991A1, Beretta, etc.
What troubles a lot of us is this question of "cheap" handguns. It is well known and published that the "cheap" handguns are garbage, a real waste of money. Most of us feel that if you can't affords a reasonble quality firearm right now that it is better to wait and save to get something that will work correctly and safely for a long period of time. There are also deals to found on the "for sale" sections of these forum sites. How about trades?

There are quality handguns out there for less than 200$, some even less than 100$. Start looking in the military surplus, and C&R sections. You'll find guns like the Star 9mm for around $175, and the Czech CZ52 in 7.62x25 for around $100, or the CZ70 in .32acp for less than $100. Then there's the Makarov, in 9x18 for around $175
Don't let anyone tell you that you have to spend a fortune on a handgun to get reliable stopping power.0 -
It is pretty tough now a days to find a NEW commercial handgun of any sort retailing for less than $100. Ten years ago you could have had your pick of a dozen makes and models of such junk! The prices I am going to give you are suggested retail so the price you pay out on the street will vary due to your location.
For automatics the Davis P-32 and P-380 sell for right around $100. A "step up" brings you to Phoenix Arms HP22 and HP25 at $128. If you've got money to burn you can make the jump over to HI-POINT and treat yourself to one of thier pistols which go for around $159. Somebody out there posted that these HI-POINTS are great pistols and that the carbine versions are used by several police departments...maybe he can give you details on these. Every other automatic out there is above $200.
The days of the cheap revolver ended many years ago since it is too hard to get a cheap one to pass the imported pistol test criteria. It is just too expensive to build a cheap revolver here in the States- they are much more mechanically complex than blow back automatics and labor costs big money in the USA. The Armsport Model 4540 .38 from the Philippines at $140 is rock bottom on price. These are imported by KBI. There are also still a few Derringers available from Davis at $100. This concludes our tour of the bottom of the barrel pistol pricing.
Remember- you asked for the prices and not my opinions on how well these guns perform. You could build yourself a fine collection of these cheap pistols for less than the price of a new SIG/Sauer P226. ENJOY!

Well you could get a used antique revolver by Iver Johnson, H&R, etc., for $30 to $60 that would, in fact work though black powder only loads are a good idea in these, and even then you have to make sure the cylinder times and locks properly, the catch on top breaks works, the pull pin on pull pins doesn't just dump out, etc. They were junk guns when made and still are, but one in functioning order with proper ammo is safe enough; I have shot many with light BP loads and round balls. Lots of fun but nothing for defense.
A Jennings J22 can be had for under $50 new. They are hit and miss. Some work great, next one jams and never does work well. I have one that works flawlessly with Remington Thunderbolt ammo but will NOT work more than a shot or two with anything else.
HiPoint makes a line of pistols that starts at about $79 new that I hear work well enough but are ugly as heck.
The best deal are some used military guns; a S&W victory revolver, CZ50 or 70, FEG PA63, and a few others can all be had for under $100 or not much more anyhow. And generally they are utterly reliable and solid guns though there are of course the occasional lemon as with anything used.

When I say cheap I don't mean $50..just a reliable gun around 300-600 dollars..Other than a glock or beretta though. 0 -
My opinion, best handguns for the money now are the Bulgarian Makarovs or the PA63. These wholesale for around $100.00 or a bit more. But if you're taking about $300-600, why not look at Glock or Beretta?

FHP,
Man you must be making way too much money if you think $300. - $600. is cheap! At that level you have a huge number of choices. Just go to GB and start filtering your wants. Personally, I have great respect for Rugers - well worth the money, I believe. Others may differ. An error on a GB posting got me (to my surprise)a HS2000 which was way better than I expected. Take your time, watch the prices, and you will find a good deal.

Wow! Now there's a lesson! One man's definition of "cheap" is not necessarily the same as another man's definition! Well, your definition certainly includes room for a good 1911, which is my hands down choice for reliable, accurate, and effective. I notice that a number of surplus military pistols were mentioned in earlier posts, and they missed a couple of good ones currently on the market: Polish Tokarevs and Spanish Star Model B's and Super B's. Both are in the $200 range, well made, and combat tested. 0 -
Please don't forget to mention the fine instrument owned by Jennings. REtail price.........$79. In 100% cond. today.....$65. This must be a fine piece of machienery.[:o)][:o)][:o)] 0 -
FHPTrooper--What caliber are you looking for? What do you intend to be the purpose of this gun? Are you looking for a duty gun? Home defense? Concealed Carry? If you are willing to go as high as $600 then I would definitely consider a SIG P-series pistol. You can't go wrong with a SIG. 0 -
Non of the above..just another gun to shoot targets with/collect. Not looking for anything in particular. Just somethin new 0 -
CZ-75, or CZ-40, both in 3-400 price range and very high quality guns for the money.
Why does everyone feel the need to burn that much powder?0 -
Thnk you..was that *Why does everyone feel the need to burn so much powder* quote directed towards me? Or what was it exactly ? heh 0 -
Dear FHP,
I would suggest that you check out the P-series Rugers. I chose the P-90 (.45)recently and I also have a P series in 9mm. I can shoot as good as or beter than most of my buddies that use more expensive autos. Of course, I'd say we are all about the same skill level of marksman. I'm not saying the Ruger P-90 is better than the other quality pistols out there, but I can say mine has been 100% reliable. I have probably run 2000+/- rounds through it. Its only draw backs, in my opinion, are the long trigger pull, lack of options for night type sights and that it is not ideal for concealed carry. I bought my KP-90 (stainless version)for $419.00, blue steel models are $20-$30 less. I suggest you look at the auction listings hear to get a feel for the price range of the handgun you chose.

Get a used Sig, glock, beretta, S&W, or taurus. A good used one of these can be had for under $600. The Sig would, by far, be the best out of the lot.

Since you are looking for a collectable too, take a look at a Walther P-5. It's an updated P-38. Didn't sell a whole bunch of them, but it has a lot of character. Will probably be a sought after collectable in about 25-30 years. Much nicer looking design-wise than a lot of the "Name" guns. 0 -
A clean used SIG P226 is the best semi-auto I've ever gotten under $600. So good and accurate, it's downright scary.

allriiiiiiighty then.now that we've defined "cheap"..a different definition than mine by far....I could easily buy two or even three guns for six bills and really be smiling!! Used,of course.Lots of Blackhawks,'smith model 10's,etc. out there.I saw a brand new Bersa today for just over two hundred...ok,maybe I'd skip that one. [:)]
Have fun looking.
