Need to know what an heirloom is worth

I need some help Please I have a Rifle that has passed down thgrough the family I need to know what its worth Its a Winchester 45-90 with an Octogon barrel help Please Thanks[?]

  Ron9514, Welcome to GB! We need a little more info on the gun to give you a better idea of it's worth. What condition is the wood in? The metal, is the blue still prominent or is it pitted and rusty? The rifle is a model 1886 if it is in 45-90 as that was the only model Winchester ever made in that caliber that I know of. The 45-90 caliber makes it worth about 30% more and the octagon barrel about 10% more than some of the other calibers. If the gun is in average condition it is still probably worth 1800-2000!!!! If in 95% condition could be as high as 4500!!! I'm sure someone on here knows more than me and maybe they'll chime in! Don't sell it to the first crackpot that offers you 500.00!!! GHD

  Yea, GHD is right. If you could also give us the serial number and tell us if it is a breakdown or not would also help.[8D]

  Does this .45-90 Win have a magazine tube? If not, it might well be an 1885 Hi-Wall single shot, which was also made in .45-90. That would be a valuable heirloom too!

  Is the barrel full length octagon or just the rear half?
  Is the magazine tube the length of the barrel?
  Is the buttplate flat or arched?
  Is the wood in the buttstock straight grained or curley?
  Does the trigger have a tiny setscrew in the upper rear?
  Is the blue in good condition?
  is the receiver pitted ?
  What is the general condition?
  What is the serial number range?
  How is the bore?
  Are there any sights mounted on the receiver?
