It is possible that when the barrel is heating and expanding, that some point of the barrel is coming in contact with something or is exerting pressure at this point of the barrel. This pressure point could affect point of aim.

rsnyder is right! Try to find the pressure point. Also if the barrel does the same thing consistently as in always to the left by about the same amount, that barrel could be a candidate for cryogenic treatment to releive a stress point in the barrel metal. GHD

Is the bbl freefloating if not try f-floating the bbl. I am not familier with your hs stock but alot of times the very tip of the stock is made to come into contact with the bbl. This is by design. To help dampen the vibration of the bbl. And it may be that as your bbl. heats up this presure is uneven. If the bbl is freefloating try to put light even presure on the bbl at the tip of the stock. Somtimes done by inserting a shim made from a buisness card there. Hope this helps.

You should be able to see around that barrel in the HS Precision stock. It should have a LOT of floating, if not, it has a problem from the factory. You should be able to get at least 3 or 4 business cards between the stock and barrel. The bedding block in the Sendero and VSSF should hold the action in such a way that there is no contact point.
I would venture to guess, that your heat problem is related to the fact that those barrels are Hammer Forged (as is evident by the little hammer symbol you should see just in front of the action on the barrel's right hand side), which as GHD stated, creates a lot of stresses in the metal, unlike button rifled barrels. As they heat up, they will walk shots. If you are shooting 40gr or 50gr bullets, remember they are leaving at up to 4100fps from the Swift, that is some intense heat. Let it cool after 3 or 4 shots, that will save the throat and keep you from wasting shots and wondering why it walks. My rule is that once a barrel heats up to the touch, let it cool at least 5 minutes or better, by pulling the bolt and leaning it up against the bench. The heat will rise up and out of the barrel and the cooler air will follow in from the reciever end. If you leave it in the bags or rest, it will radiate the heat to the upper portion of the barrel inside, like an oven, and retain the heat longer.

Would it be worth having the rifle cyro treated?? Would this fix the problem??? How much does that cost???

    Thanks

It's fairly cheap. Do a search on cryogenic barrel treatment, and a few companies that offer that service will come up.

If was me.. I would just have them screw in a 24" heavy bull barrell. you could shoot all day, and never have to wait for the barrel to cool. because it wouldn't heat up. I hate waiting for a barrel to cool, just not necessary.

Ted Gar, The VSSF is already a heavy barrel and 26 inches! As far as shoting all day and not heating up, you're wrong and people who abuse barrels, both light or heavy are one of the reasons the barrel makers stay in business! GHD
