Off the top of my head, sounds like a Webley revolver, I know they made a Bulldog. If so might be in .455 or .38sw. I'd do a search on Webley revolvers, might find out what it is he has.

Well, it could be an original Webley #2 Bull Dog.....if it is, it will have British proofmarks.

Or....it could be a cheap Belgian copy, in which case it will probably have Belgian proofmarks.

Or....it could be a cheap American copy, in which case it won't have any proof marks at all.

If it's a Webley, it's worth some $$$$. If it's a Belgian or American knockoff, he's got a nice paperweight.

    Check this out: http://hem.bredband.net/b102212/bulldog.html

And a bit of Trivia: Charles J. Guiteau used a British Bull Dog Revolver to assassinate President James Garfield in 1881.
