Win. 1897 12ga. ?

Just acquired a Winchester 1897 12ga in VG+ condition Mfg. 1901 . Can I shoot modern ammo ? Thanks

  Check the chamber length,some of the old 97's had short chambers I am told.They are very popular ow with the Cowboy Shooters,and all use modern ammo,IF the chamber is correct or had been lengthened..

  Yes, as long as it is in good condition. The 1893 (almost identical) was black powder only.

  The 16ga was the one with the short chambers in the early models. The 12ga was 2.75.
