Smith & Wesson 4506 opinions

Has anyone here fired or owned a S&W 4506 .45?? I love the looks of them for some reason, but im curious if they are reliable and accurate.
Also, some have a grip with a straight backstrap, while others have a curved one. Which do you consider to be more confortable?? (im assuming the feel is the same on all the Smith pistols, but ive never held one?)

  I have had an adjustable sight version for about 10 years. It is very reliable and accurate. It came with the curved back strap that I changed to the straight version. I had the hots for one when I bought it, but it is not one of my favorite pistols. It justs feels awkward in my hand. The grips are so flat on the sides that I find it uncomfortable. I finally put a Hogue sleeve on it. In fairness to it, I am 1911 fan and it just doesn't feel the same. I am not a big fan of double action pistols.

  The feel of the grips is a personal thing, I have small thick hands, so I prefer grips that are not very thick. Someone with larger hands probably likes bigger grips. That is why I prefer the straight backstrap grip. When this model first came out, a friend got one, he was a true-blue 1911 fan. The one thing that impressed him was that you could take a magazine full of empties and cycle through the gun. He said his Colts would not do that. I have had two of the 4506's and currently have two 1076's (10mm). Also had several other Smith autos and I have never had any jams, failures to eject, or other problems with any of these guns. Everyone has their likes and dislikes when it comes to guns as well as cars, etc. I prefer the way the Smith and Wessons can be carried with the hammer down and on safety.

  I dont own one ,I wish I did Ive fired my friends many times and was fond of how it shot.I cant really find a fault for the gun.Some may say its to large for CC,but I use pancake holsters on 90 percent of my semi-auto's,and leave my shirt untucked to hide the weapon.Im of big stature so its easy for me to do Im 6"5 270pds.As far as weight goes Im used to it and dont even realize its there.HTH

  I think i like the straight backstrap models better, just judging by other Smiths ive held. Pearyw, how did you convert yours from curved to straight and how much does it cost? I realize its a big gun, but i have always prefered bigger pistols for some reason.
  
  Rugster- Its rare i meet another shooter as tall as me, im also 6'5". Good to see theres at least one other tall guy out there [;)]
