AR-15 Mags
Anyone know where I can find quality pre-ban 20-30 rd mags for my AR-15? Should I get metal or plastic? I've heard Colt has the best ones. Is that true?

Stick with the Gov't issue ones. Don't waste your time with the USA brand mags. I haven't tried the British steel ones yet. 0 -
Why leave out plastic/composite? Thermold and Orlite are both decent mags but neither made of aluminum or steel. USGI surplus aluminum is a good choice. Most military surplus probably is fine, but I haven't tried the surplus British steel yet either. Going with a steel mag in an aluminum gun kinda seems to counter one big advantage, light weight. As gurn said, stay completely away from USA brand mags. USGI mags are reasonably enough priced there's no reason to buy aftermarket mags. Some might consider Thermold aftermarket, but they are used by the Canadian military. Certain guns (spelled Professional Ordnance) are particular to Thermold mags and don't like substitutes.

I forgot about the Thermold. Anything the Israelis use is always a good choice; battle proven in a harsh environment. The other thing with steel mags versus aluminum receiver. Steel is harder and will win. Over time it will show more in your mag well than on your mags. 0 -
In order of preferance-
1. NIW aluminum bodied, green follower 30Rnd USGI whenever you can get them at a good price. (NO SANCHEZ!)
2. Used aluminum bodied, green follower 30Rnd USGI, I usually upgrade the spring and follower if they're not curent.
3. NIW/Used 20Rnd USGI, preferably with aluminum followers.
4. Oralite Isreali mags.
5. Thermolds.
6. Current manufacture Colt, Bushmaster 10Rnd Mags.
USA, Western Metal Products, any other aftermarket, and steel bodied mags don't even place on the list.
