You don't give us very much to go on. A full discription would be nice. Anyway, Marlin Model 1881, made from 1881-1892 about 20,000 produced. Serial numbers start at #4001. 24 inch octagon barrels standard, but round barrels were available. Blue finish with casehardened hammer, lever and buttplate. 6,261 made in .40 caliber. Prices start at about $800 for one in very good condition to $2,800 for one in like new condition.

We know the blue book values and so forth based on its condition. We are more concerned with the Kindler name and its significance on the gun.

Looked through several of my lists and don't find the name "V. Kindler". Could it be a hardware dealer or a sporting goods dealer? In the 1880's and '90's the gun companies would stamp just about any bodies name on the barrel if you bought a lot of so many.
