Lug on AR15 Receiver
On the left hand side of the AR15 receiver, there is a bit of a protrusion in front of the selector/safety, and one behind as well. The one on the rear acts as a stop for the safety selector switch, the one on the front appears to be nothing more than a carry-over for full auto selection and serves no useful purpose on a semi-auto, correct? I'm asking as I'm building a custom gun and want to remove it if it serves no purpose.

I'm not really an expert on this, but from what I have read and seen on this and other forums, I would not modifiy or change in anyway, except for maybe the finish any AR15 receiver. I doubt that the bump that your referring to would mess up your custom gun, but removing it might cost you in the long run. I suspect that someone with a little more knowledge on the subject will reply to your post here, and confirm what I have said. Good luck. 0 -
The stop serves no useful purpose on the AR15. If you remove it you will have to match the surface texture or there will be a shiny spot. 0 -
I removed it. This is going to be an AR pistol from an 80% receiver, I need to remove all the "fat" I can to keep the weight below the 50 oz limit. Thanks!
