This opens up a real can of worms....hope I don't discourage you. Having been President of our club of 800 families for years, there are lots of things to consider. Liability for the property owner would be the big one...then there is the issue of meeting code and local regulations, enviromental clean-up, insurance, etc. Don't forget someone has to clean and maintain it...then there's the matter of guests and buddies....you might be better off keeping this very informal amoung a small group of friends...and no more! 0 -
Rembrandt, Yes that is why I say shooting range as opposed to shooting club, I/We do not want to get into the hassle of insurance and liability so I thought there must be a point where it is one and not the other(range/club). I had hopes I might find that with this post.We of corse would do the maint. clean up. The local ordnance has to do with shooting in the town limits but we would be outside the town. And after all this is thought of as the pheasant capital of the world so shooting out in the county is ok but to what degree I dont know yet. I will of corse at some time make inquiries to the sheriff but I dont want to tip my hat to soon. It is a very small comunity and that can work for or against us. Thanks for the advice it has not gone unheard and will be taken.

At a recent meeting of the "reelfoot area friends of the NRA", our new state rep gave us all some ideas for getting a range in the area. Some Ideas were, Go to the local courthouse and find the list of "contaminated land"- contact the owner, volunteer to maintan the property, and since its already contaminated, all you need is proper development. And the NRA publishes a scematic for a proper range, and if followed to the T, they even offer a grant. Making it all the cost of a weekly mowing of the grass.. 0 -
