Did the winchester 75 sporter ever come from the factory with the receiver and barrel drilled and tapped for scope blocks? My friend has one in the 105xx ser number range

  Would a Winchester 75 Sporter, serial no. 12,xxx, have factory drilled receiver sight holes on the side of the receiver, if it came originally with sporting sights? I am considering the purchase of the above gun, it has two holes drilled on the side for a scope mount, has a redfield receiver sight(non original?), ramp bead front sight, and has the dovetail slot for a rear sight on the barrel. Thank you for any info..... One last optional request; gun rates approximatley 80% blue, 70% varnish, stock is original with original pistol grip cap and buttplate, would value be above or below $300.00 for a shooter?

  The 75 Winchester (Sporter) is one fine rifle. They did not come with
  target sights but special order is a possibility. The later models had grooved receivers for scope mounts. One heck of a bolt .22.
  I can not answer the original drilled side for scope mount. I would think that 300 bucks is a fair price in the condition-if the bore is perfect-perhaps more. The 75 Target was a fine gun but does not bring the price that a Sporter does. Someone will come along and give you all your required information. Very fine arms. 101

  From the latest Blue Book:
  
  "Model 75 Sporter - similar to Target, except 24 in. tapered barrel, detachable mag., non-target sights and select checkered walnut.
  
  70% = $350
  80% = $425
  90% = $475
  
  Add 20%-25% for "grooved" receiver allowing "tip-off" scope mounts."
  
  As a shooter...if the action's tight, and the bore is good, sounds like a deal to me.

  The 1953 Gun Digest pictures the Win. 75 Sporter with a Lyman 57 rear sight. This is an aperture sight mounted on the left rear of the receiver. The dovetail in the barrel for the rear open sight has a blank in it. It was described as available from the factory with the Lyman 57 and Lyman bead front sight at a price of $61.30 while the same rifle with open sights was priced at $54.65.
