am lookikng at buying a colt anaconda realtree edition. Had a few questions and was wondering if anyone out there can help. 1st, did they make it in a 6" model, or just the 8"?? how many were produced?
thanks for any info0 -
I can just give you an opinion--nothing scientific. Colt: Big. Heavy. Probably stronger than the Smith. Smith: More graceful. Better feeling in my hand. Ruger: Strongest. Ugly. Heavy. (Redhawk and Super Redhawk). First choice, S&W 629. Second choice, Ruger Super Blackhawk. Third choice, Anaconda. 0 -
I looked at the Ruger, Smith, and the Colt.
Anaconda just felt the best, So I bought it.0 -
Yes the anaconda looks good but if you want true performance go with the Ruger. It will never fail you. Rugers you can also shoot hotter loads through if you wanted. The 44 is a large round and i am vary happy with the 357. Just my simple input.

Personal Experience:
1. Owned a 629 Classic 44 mag 5" barrel. SOLD IT.
2. Owned Ruger Redhawk 44 mag 7 1/2 Barl.SOLD IT.
3. Owned Colt Anaconda ss 6" ported Barrel. KEPT IT.
The Colt felt better, was more accurate. The others were fine guns in their own right but not compared to the Colt. Also I really fell in love with the ported barrel.[^]0 -
Over the years I have owned a few .44 Mags. Third choice is the Ruger Redhawk. Finally sold that one. Second choice is a S&W 629, great trigger, decent accuracy, kept it mainly because of the story that goes with it. My favorite, 6" Colt Anaconda. Long distance accuracy blows both of the other two away. I purchased it in 1994 and have put 3000 plus rounds through it.
Topped with a Tasco PPII, it is a great hunting gun and a fun shooter.

If you want strength, go with the Rugers. If you want smoothness of action, go with the S&W. The Colt fits between the two. 0 -
Have a 4in Anaconda and I love it except for one thing. Felt recoil!!!! Don't know why but the recoil 'feels' worse than my 3in 629-1. Put on a set of Altamont(sp) grips and it actually felt better than the factory rubber.

I also replaced the factory rubber grips and put a set of rubber finger groove Hogues on mine. Made a huge difference in felt recoil.

The metal that is used in the Colts is no where close as strong and there for after many shots your groups are going to widen but the ruger hardening process is outstanding and will basiacly go through anything. The colts are sposed to be even softer than S&W. I have shot an Anancanda and did not like it at all. S&W hammer is too high for comfortable shooting but the ruger is just perfect. Go with the Ruger all the way.
