    Saxon right about the possible models and calibers. As to the value, these old Colt's cant be tricky. Depending on condition and the exact model & date of production; these guns value anywhere from $50 as a wall hanger to $1000 or more if it's the right model. There are alot of models that look very similar so be careful. To me, an unknown model unknown caliber, but cosmeticaly good, and functional Colt DA is worth about $100. If it were a western style gun Possibly a Single Action, that's a whole other ball game.

    If you want it as a shooter, don't get it. If you want it to start a collection, do some more research. I'm sure if you post some pics, someone will be able to identify it by just looking at it.

    A Possible Colt New Navy 2nd Issue in 38 Long/Short Colt.
    The only barrel marking would "Colt DA"
    But the barrel would be 4 1/2 not 4"
    A New Navy 2nd will have double locking cyl notches and double locking bolt.

    A pic sure would help us.
