Very subjective question! Depends on what you want them to do. Make a hole, expand, penetrate, etc. In my work, I need a round that expands in tissue, yet I can penetrate (if need be) a vehicle body. I determined that my number one priority was (as a immediate threat to me) againist an unarmored individual first, getaway vehicle second. After testing all available off the shelf rounds, the Remington Golden Sabre of 185 grains seemed to be best for my purposes.

Not sure I understand the question.

By "shell", do you mean the brass case? Or, are you talking about factory loaded ammunition?

Assuming you meant loaded ammo, I'll second that vote for Rem Golden Sabres- I use it as my on and off duty round in .357Mag and .45Acp.

    BTW-Welcome to the board!

And if you mean brass for reloading, reprocessed GI brass is most excellent, although you must be careful working up max loads as the case capacity is lower than commercial cases because the wall thickness is greater - not a handicap and the brass, IMHO, will survive more trips through a sizing die because of this.

Geez, you guys are subtle. Jimjim, .45 ACP doesn't come in shells. It comes in boxes or case lots. Pistol ammo comes in empty cases or loaded ammo. Oysters and lobsters come in shells. So do snails.

Look here now.....4 posts and already calling names! Don't predict a long happy future on this board......! People on this Board are quite accomodating and will help any lady or gentleman. Doubt anyone will pick up on your questions in the future......unless you tone down your attitude......at least a little, huh?

45 ACP has a lot of good HP rounds. Speer Gold Dot, Federal Hydra Shok and the Remington Golden Saber are considered to be at the top of the class. I'm sure there are other good ones. Test 'em out for feeding and reliability. It's one thing to have the "right" ammo and another thing if it's wrong in your gun.

I like the 200gr JHP at 1000fps or faster, but not by much. There are several offerings. Just my 2 cents

Against a get away car? They make handguns that will do work against cars now? I must have missed it. I thought that only Barnaby Jones and Fran Cannon could stop cars with handguns. When you could buy AP rounds for the .357 it was pretty anemic against cars and that was before mandatory side impact steel collision panels etc. Guess the new ammo is pretty hot (tisk tisk). As for a .45 it's hard to make a bad choice for a bullet design. Seems they all work. At least I never heard a complaint about any.

I wouldn't call shooting a getaway car or it's occupant "personal defense". I believe if you got the guy the authorities would call it a felony like manslaughter, or possibly murder. My honest and humble opinion is that if the guy is trying to get away (even with your stuff) one should leave it up to the authorities. Vigilantism will only bring more heat on law-abiding firearms owners, and we don't need it.
