gunsmith help AMT 45 Auto

Got this in a bag. Put it together plus new match bushinh. It came with Chip M. beavertail saftey,works great except it will fire with the beavertail not depressed.What am i doing wrong?

  it's hard to say without seeing it. But, the grip safey is held out by the three-pronged sear spring; one prong returning the trigger, one keeping pressure on the sear, and one pushing against the grip safety. I would speculate that you have (1) an improperly seated (installed) spring, (2) a defective sear, (3) a defective hammer. BEST GUESS would be that if you were to knock out the mainspiring housing pin, drop the mainspring housing, remove the thumb safety, remove the grip safey, and reseat the spring making sure that the prongs are where they should be--it would work. However, it is suspicious that you received it in pieces. There is nothing wrong with AMT .45's--have a couple myself, and their specs. and repair pretty much are the same as any other Govt. Model. Was the frame altered to accept the new grip safety? If not, you could try reseating the spring first, and then try a stock safety part. If the frame was altered, and you are able to rule out the spring, sear, and hammer--then it's time to trot down to your local gunsmith because you've got big trouble.

  first thing i'd look at is the grip safty, if is goes back and forth under spring tension like it should (see above reply) then the arm that blocks the sear may be too short.
