My elderly neighbor has asked me to id a pistol that belonged to her father. It is a S&W with several patent dates runing from 1894 to 1909 marked on the barrel, which is 3.5 inches long. It has black somewhat round grips with the S&W logo in the grips. The barrel is marked Cal. .32 OTC. It also has a military type holster that by the wear marks looks made for the gun. It has a button over flap. Looks like a old police gun to me but any advice would be appreciated.

It's an early post-war K-22.If memory serves around 1948 by the serial number. The numbers inside the yoke are just assembly numbers,go by the number on the butt. Pre 1957 S&W's don't have any model numbers marked on them.It should be a 5 screw gun with a 6" barrel.
