I bought a Boyd "The Ross" Thumbhole stock for a Mauser I built and I was/am very happy with it. The action dropped in with no problems and a standard barrel would have too ... but I used a oversized varmint barrel and it was no problem opening up the channel. I also bought one of the JRS (Monte Carlo type) Stocks for a Turkish Mauser, its a plain walnut and the action also dropped in easily as well however I'm still playing with the idea of fitting the original handguard and and using a barrel band ... but thats still a work in progress ...

I might also recommend a Fajen stock. I have had several and their fit and finish were always nice...

It doesn't matter what you shoot, just shoot it well...

I bought a Boyd's stock for a Winchester pre-64 94... It fit great and looked excellent...

They are my #1 choice when looking for a replacement/new stock.

Boyd's is the largest maker of stocks in the country and many of the stocks on new rifles are made by them for the manufactureres. Their stocks are high quality and fit is as good as factory new, if not custom. Fajen was a stock maker that did a wide variety of stock, but they were bought by Midway and put down the tubes. The current incarnation only makes a very few stocks for two or three rifles, I think M-1 is one of their main offerings. www.boydboys.com

You can also try Richards Microfit GunStocks at www.rifle-stocks.com. They have actions cut for Weatherby Vanguards and also for the Howa actions. I've bought several from them to replace the wood on a couple of well-used 22's and they came out great.
