Reloading Ques- Powdered Mica as necksizing lube??

I was looking through my Midway sales e-mail when I noticed the following:

Tech Specs are as follows-
Capacity/Size: 1 Pound
Packaged in Cardboard Canister
Material: Wet Ground Mica
Notes:
Used to Lubricate Case Necks Before Sizing
Can Be Dusted Over Cast Bullets to Reduce Stickiness
Do Not Use to Lubricate Outside of Cartridge Case


I have never heard of this type of lube process- could someone explain it me? I mean, what's the point if you cannot use it as a lube on the exterior??

  Matt, I have no idea what you do with this stuff either but I purchased an entire lot of reloading equipment at auction and I've had a 20LB bucket of this stuff out in my garage for ten years! Let me know if you want some and I'll mail you a pound or two gratis!

  You use it to lubricate the inside of the neck on rifle cases so that there is less drag on expander button on the sizing die. Midway and other companies sell a stand with various sizes of brushes to aid in applying the powder lubricant. A lot of your case stretching can be reduced by doing this.

  Right on Pearyw. Used it on rifle cases for years with old Bonanza multi-brush unit

  Tom and Peary are dead on. I've seen graphite and moly used for the same purposes.

  The current Midway catalog has powdered mica 4oz for $8.39 . You might want to bag some of that up in zip lock bags and put it in the auctions. You might make a few bucks. If you sold 4oz for $3.00 + shipping, You'd have $240.00 when you were done.
