Billy the Kid

Hey

Questions about Billy the Kid:

1) It is generally reported that he had either a Colt 1877 Lightning
or Thunderer when he was killed. Does anyone know whether it was a Lightning or Thunderer? What was the barrel size? While much of the literature contains a general refence to this gun, none seems to cite the original source of this information; does anyone know the original source?

2) In what is apparently the only known photo of Billy, he is holding a rifle and has a pistol on his side. Does any one know anything about these guns (make, caliber, year, model,barrel length etc.)?

  i did some reading and really cannot come up with the answer you are looking for. i read that he liked to use a colt single action .44, .41 thunderer and the .38 lightning. as to which he was using when he was shot is a ?
  the rifle you saw in the pic was a winchester 73

  I recall reading he did in the bar tender with a pair of ejector model
  Thunderers. Don't recall which barrel length.
