did ruger make a nickel plated vaquero 45lc, or are all of them s.s.? thanks, daniel.

  Hi,
  
  Simple newbie type question. I'm trying to learn all I can about Ruger Vaquero revolvers. I've noticed that pictures of them always show a yellow band at the rear of the cylinder. It looks like a plastic spacer. Is this just for storage/shipping or is it a permanent part of the gun? I'm very interested in the 45lc/45acp combination offering from ruger.

  Its for shipping only it pays no roll in the use of the gun.I am speaking of one I recently purchased,and it had no benefit to the gun.Now on the .45colt/.45acp may be different.HTH

  Thanks rugster. That's what I thought. Somehow couldn't imagine an 1873 replica firearm with a yellow plastic spacer being very cowboy looking.

  As near as I can determine it simply assures that the revolver is not loaded until it is sold. There is insufficient space between the rear of the cylinder and the frame to allow the presence of the disc and ammunition, and gun shop personnel can ascertain at a glance that the revolver is not loaded by seeing the brightly colored disc. It is intended that it be removed by the purchaser who must remove the cylinder pin and cylinder in order to remove the disc, making subsequent loading a deliberate action (liability). An unintended side benefit may be that if the revolver is dry fired prior to sale that the firing pin strikes the soft plastic at the approx. location in its hammer fall where a primer would be located, preventing the hammer from falling completely against nothing.

  shadowhawke: right now I have only 1 Vaquero, its a blued version in 45 colt 7 1/2" barrel, I've had several over the years and they all have been good guns , just seems that for some reason some one always talking me out of them , anyways you won't go wrong buying a Vaquero, oh and Der Gebirgsjager is right on the money about the yellow spacer

  a friend of mine has a 45 in the black hawk with the ajustable rear site and he likes it a lot but would not go with the vaquero because it just has a notch. the rear sight is nice. I have a gp 160 and love mine with the rear sight. Just something for you to think about.

  The reason for the Vaquero was to duplicate the style of the handguns of the 1860's, which had notches and blades. Except for the extra weight which I am getting used to I enjoy my pair immensely.
