While they look alike from a distance, the only things they have in common are probably stocks, sights and maybe a few screws. The actions had totally different lockup systems.
The 92 series had a short action made for pistol cartridges. It was made in 218Bee, 25-20, 32-20, 38-40,and 44-40. More recently they or their clones were made in 357 magnum,44 magnum,45 Long Colt and 454 Casull.
The 94 was made in 25-35, 32-40, 38-55, 32 Winchester Special and 30-30. I believe it was more recently made in additional calibers of 307 Winchester, .356 Winchester and 375 Winchester0 -
A 92 is a scaled down 1886. Is that cloning?

Had an 1886, a Tigre 92 clone and two modern 92 Browning 92s. Disappointingly, none of the 92s were as smooth and slick as the 86 even though they were midget 86s.
When I lived in NYC in the '50s the NYPD sold off all their 92s in 44-40. As I recall they had both carbines and rifles with perfect bores but not too much bluing. They were kept in steel boxes mounted on the rear shelves of the squad cars. I fondled them and agonized overnot having the $40-45 they wanted for one.0
