I am in the market for a varmint rifle with a heavy barrel in 22-250 such as a Savage bolt action. However, I recently saw some literature on the New England Firearms single shot rifle in .223 or .243 with a bull barrel.
Has anyone had any experience with these that you could share with me?
    Thanks,
    dchristian

I have a Handi-Rifle in 223.It is very accurate and being a 223 it is cheap to load for and pleasant to shoot.I also have a Savage 110 in 243 that I like. You would probably be pleased with either.Sorry I wasnt more help.

The NEF handi rifles are exremely accurate in just about any caliber they make these in. Usually in the $199-$250 range also which makes them that much more attractive.

A close friend bought a NEF and was so pleased he bought one for his dad! He also has the short action Savage in .22-250 which is very very accurate. I think "buddyb" is right, you would be happy with either...but yeah, I too am sorry I wasn't any more help than his reply!

I have the combo package. 12 ga/3 1/2" with 243 heavy barrel. I bought it second hand but unfired with standard wgt. 243 barrel. The first shooting session caused spalling on the crown. Returned the firearm to N.E.F. and received back a brand new heavy barrel and apologies for my problem. That baby is a tack driver. nb

Thanks to aglore, my son has a Handi-Rifle in 243 with a bull barrel. We received it earlier this week, mounted a BSA 3X9 scope on it. Sighted it in yesterday at 100 yards. Brandon, who is almost 9, was shooting 3 shot groups at 100 yards that were less than 1-inch! Only MINOR complaint I have with the gun is that it is HEAVY! That is a mixed blessing though. No recoil AT ALL, which is great for Brandon. I would just hate to tote the dang thing all day long. But it is balanced nicely, and shoots GREAT. dchristian...I would say go for the NEF in 243. Heck, then send it back in and have a 223 barrel fitted to it for app. $70. Then you have both! Or even a 308, or 270, or 30-06, or 30-30 barrel.

Taxation WITH representation isn't so hot either!

i have a nef handi rifle synthetic stock, non bull barrel in 223 and it shoots 3 shot clovereafs at 100 yds. this is with 45 gr winchester usa ammo that sells for $12.00 for a box of 40 (forty). To me, you cant beat it as far as price goes if you don't mind a single shot rifle. my theory is if you kill them with the first shot.....
