Cetme Mags

Hi Folks,

Picked up a couple of the Cetme rifles with the new stainless steel receiver and a bunch of cetme mags. I tried all of them (ten) and not a one will fit into the magazine well far enough for the magazine catch to snap into place against the magazine.

Any idea on where to start with slight adjustments on the mags? I looked them over and it looks like the front of the magazine should maybe be cleaned up with a dremel tool.

Any thoughts?

    where is the cheapest place to purchase mags for the cetme rifle...tapco????

    Maybe you have HK91 mags. There are some variances between them even though they look the same.

    I guess the hk mags that I remember had the "waffle" look to them. These are pretty straight.

    HK mags are a little bit widder than CETM. I suggest widding the mag of the rifle well to fit the mag. If the HK mag will fit so will all the CETMs. Best, Robert

    Saxonpig, no insult taken... I figured that they need to go in kind of like the mini14 mags?? I can tip them in and push up on the back of the mag, but the back end just doesn't want to go up into the mag well far enough to get in place for the magazine catch to lock in place. The front two tabs on the mag are up against the bottom of the mag well, but the back two aren't quite there yet...

    Hold the magazine above a candle and add a coat of soot all the way around the contact area and try inserting again. Where the soot is rubbed away is where you need to work. If you have a stamped receiver instead of cast, you may want to take a wooden wedge and gently widen the mag well. Polishing the mag latch can help too.
    Be careful if you Dremel or file away metal. Go slow and test fit
    frequently. Visit the Cetme web site before you do any work. The

    This is a new stainless steel receiver, so maybe they got the tolerences a bit tight on it...

    This will sound insulting too but not my intention. Have you tried forcing them? Also make sure you lock the bolt back when inserting the mags on these cetmes. Insert the magazine slap the bottom of it and let the bolt slam forward on its own force. I have a feeling this may solve your problem. These guns require the bolt to locked back to load them. They also don't chamber rounds reliably if the bolt is riddin forward.

    I saw a guy at the range over the summer having the exact same problem you describe, he was ready to sell me the gun for $250. My good friend who owned the Century HK type learned the trick and showed this guy how to do it. Guy was really happy.

    Unfortunately you will find that there is a tolerance difference between the original Cetmes and these new versions. You may have to do some modification to the mag catch itself. I have had several that needed some type of adjustment before they would work properly. If you need further guidance I can help walk you through it. LRARMSX@MCHSI.COM

    Just receive my cetme, the 5 round mag fit good but the two 20 round would not lock in. Found latch on 20 round was about .020" longer, filed them down and lock in, had same problem on some AK 47.
