.45ACP ReLoad Question
I have a bag of 100 RNFP 200Gr, .452Dia Oregon Trail/Laser Cast bullets. The bag is marked ".45LC"
After looking at these long and hard and comparing them to Laser Cast's 200Gr .452Dia .45ACP Semi-Wadcutters the surface bearing area is about the same, although the lube groove/ring is 1/2 the size.
The biggest downside factor is that the bullet will be set back from the throat of the barrel once chambered.
The reason I bring this up is I like to shoot 200Gr. lead bullets but the semiwads occasionally hang-up, I think that the more rounded RNFP will feed much more positively. The second factor is that I have yet to find a local sorce for 200Gr Lead RN, which are a lot cheaper than 230Gr LRN's.
What to do? Any suggestions?

I believe that you can load them without ill effect. The lube groove will probably make little or no difference, as the Oregon Trail bullets are cast pretty hard and don't lead the bore too much at reasonable velocities. Also, if you happen to use Lee Tumble Lube the lube is all over the bullet and the lube groove is unnecessary. If you want to see something really strange sometime, load some 230 gr. RN .45 Auto bullets in .45 L.C. cases. Looks like a giant .38 Special. Colt S.A.A.s and clones cylinders aren't long enough to hold the cartridges and turn, but Ruger Blackhawks will. Accuracy is mediocre. 0 -
I don't see a problem here. As usual, when using new components, start low and work up. 0 -
I've shot some 200 lead RNFPs in my 1911 and S&W 625 45 ACP. Works just fine. You want to use a bit less powder than a jacketed bullet to keep the lead fouling down. Makes a great target round.
