The slide on my .48acp Colt Series 70 Government Model keeps locking back during firing. I've tried replacing magazine to no success. I though it might be I'm not holding it right but that doesn't seem to the case either. Might it be the slide stop spring?
Anyone have any ideas why this is happening?

Size.....The Commander is smaller to accomodate the shorter barrel.

Frame is the same. The slide is shorter.

The dust cover on the commander frame is shorter than the one on the government model.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm just starting to read up on these. I thought I would like to build one up. From what I have heard they are a fairly easy gun to assemble. That's for me - this will be my first try.

cbxjeff: Do you have a CBX? If you do and work on it yourself the 1911 will be a piece of cake.[:D]

    Smokey,

I had to quit my full-time job just to have enough time to keep the 24 valves adjusted and the 6 carbs in tune! (Not really) I don't ride much anymore. My arthricic fingers make it too difficult. I have missed only 4 Sturgis rallys since '82. Many years I never saw another one.
