Gun choice for competion shooting?
I currently have a Kimber Gold Match,in stainless and one in polymer.I also have a Glock 34.But,I would like to start bullseye competion shooting.I would really like some in put on one gun I should buy and practice with,that would be perfect .Or just input on another gun that I might enjoy shooting.Thanks Gary (ps)NO BUDGET.

What type of competion are you going to perticapate in?That would dictate the type of firearm needed.For bullseye comp.the gold match would be great, Let us know what you are going to do,and im sure you will receive a lot of good advice. I would like to bullseye competions.They do make a Gold Match in polymer.Kimber just came out with it and there is a 3 month wait.I just got lucky and was at the right place at the right time because I have one. 0 -
Again, it depends on the competition but I would say out of the Box go for a Kimber Match, or Colt Gold Cup. If you go custom, that opens a whole other can of worms.

rballi, great looking Colt and thanks for posting the picture in a nice simple way so that even a computer dummy like myself could just click and take a look at it. My own choice for this type of shooting is my S&W Model 52 in .38 Special, mid range wad cutter. It has great sights and a very fine single action trigger and was ready to go out of the box. I have shot this pistol for many years and it is still shoots as good as the day I got it. These have been long discontinued by Smith, but you should still be able to locate a nice one with very little trouble. Certainly a Gold Cup would be a fine choice as well and I can't say anything bad about them. What is your budget situation? As rballi said, the sky is the limit on these types of pistols...how much of your money would you like me to spend for you?

That is the same animal. The only changes I have made was to replace the factory checkerd grips with a smooth walnut set and I purchased a set of Herrett's target grips with a large thumb rest, although I seldom use them. I have pleaded with the S&W folks for years at the SHOT show to reintroduce the 52 but they have expressed zero interest-I guess they are too hung up on titanium and Scandium J Frames. They just don't make them like the Model 52 anymore!

In the years I shoot Bull-eye competition, I used a 70's Model, that I accurized. The .45 wad cutter makes a bigger hole, so you scored a higher score with larger hole.When I shoot the state matches,they had a mid-range class, which was limited, to the smaller bores.I shoot a K-Model .38 Special Smith, with 83\8 " single action only. In .22 class, I shoot a Colt Match Target, in the long barrel.I think 6" (man I wish I had that one back!).
You can start with a Gold Cup, and a Ruger .22, and have a lot of fun. I had a Clark Custom Ruger .22, that I shoot for awhile,but the darn thing, would only shoot Federal Hi-power, Hi-Vel ammo. It would shoot them into one hole, at 50 ft,but nothing else would group. I had to quit shooting it because, the other guys I shoot matches with, pissed, and moaned, because I was shooting Hi-vel ammo., and it made a pretty good crack,at in door range.
