Remington Titanium 700 - customizable?
The idea of the titanium Remington 700 sounds neat. I have thought about getting one of these and putting on a carbon fiber barrel (caliber undecided at this time).
Gunsmiths - can these be mated to other barrels etc, as all other 700's? Or for that matter, can the lighter bolt be added to a Sendero for instance?
I like a barrel heavy gun, but not a heavy gun - if that makes sense. [?]

bambihunter,
I know that the prices have come down on the TItanium rifles from Remington but here is an alternative for your consideration.

Ross Spagrud is the main contact at Prairie Gun Works. They manufacture TItanium receivers in various configurations as well as designing and building complete rifles for several disciplines. His partner, Steve is a National F-Class and sniper competition winner in Canada. Yes, they are located in Canada but they have a distributor on our side of the border that handles all of his transfers for the U.S. Check out the website. I have no affiliation with them other than knowing them.
I have been reading about these carbon barrels on another forum since the above link advertises there. He can point you in the right direction about which fibers are better and why. There are also some good questions and discussions on that forum but he or I will have to point you there after you e-mail us. I don't want to offend our moderators, they are good to us.
Anyway, my point is that there are alternatives to buying complete rifles, tearing them apart and then adding custom parts. You can look at having a custom rifle built to the specifications that you want right from the start.
I just checked my files and came up with another thought.

This shop is owned and operated by Melvin Forbes. He manufactures extremely light rifles for all sorts of conditions. Highly respected.
The shorter answer to your question is, yes, the Remington receivers can be customized. Be careful to select a gunsmith that is familiar with working with TItanium as it works different from our more common materials such as 4140 and the variations of "chromemoly".

Wow, that was some precise information... I am checking the links now. Thank you very much! I'll email if there are further questions.
It doesn't matter what you shoot, just shoot it well...0
