Rem. Viper .22's....pretty good guns??
My local shop has a used Viper with a synthetic stock..nice and light..and was wondering what folks here think of these 22.'s.I like reliable feeding and goood accuracy, not expecting it to drive tacks.
I thought 99.00 was a good price, came real close to buying it.:)
Thanks room.

They are a decent little plinker. I'd rather have a Ruger 10/22 though. 0 -
They were decent shooting little guns but that darn stick down and get hung on anything magazine doomed them!! GHD 0 -
One word: CRAP.
Remington quit making them for a reason.
If you buy one, get it for under $50 and throw it away when it breaks or gets dirty, whichever comes first.

I will go with nunn and rmeyer, stick alittle more money into a 10/22 ruger. viper[xx(]no good 0 -
Remington made another syn. .22 that I think alot of. The Nylon 66, mine is Mohawk brown and is a 15 shot (14-mag--1-chamber) semi-auto.
Bought it in 1980 when I was 11 yrs. old, my first gun. Open sights I can hit a squirrel in the head at 35-40 yds. no problem. Light, and short gun to carry hunting. You know I think I'll take it rabbit hunting this weekend.
BTW, it cost me $90.72, new. I've seen them for about 130-150 in decent shape.0 -
I would check into a used 10/22, you should be able to get a good one for the near the same price. Might be a little higher but for reliable feeding and decent accuracy the 10/22 will deliver. 0 -
Thanks for the replies guys.
Same shop had a used nylon 66 for 119.00. I may get a 10-22,just thought i'd check with the room on that Viper.Had a Nylon once, kinda regret trading it off.
Thanks again.

The Vipers are pieces of crap as well as the 597's that followed them and are still made now. The magazines still do not feed well and were plastic right up to now, I hear even the metal mags aren't any better. Ruger 10/22 all the way ! 0 -
I have one and they work OK. I bought it because it has a weaver scope base instead of a rim fire. I mounted a Pro-Point red dot on it. They are not the gun the 66 was. 0 -
I love Remingtons... but when it comes to .22's - everyone has already said it... 10/22!
It doesn't matter what you shoot, just shoot it well...0 -
It's been said before and I will say it again. CRAP. I have one and wish I didn't. (I hate to admit to this.)[;)]

I had a 10/22 and liked it. I am a big fan of Ruger products and own several. BUT...I would still take my Nylon 66 MB over a 10/22 due to weight, capacity, and feel. That's my opinion.
