bushmaster muzzle brake
is it possiable to remove the ak muzzle brake from my bushmaster shorty and replace it with another type??

Slider, I have around 6 Bushmasters but they are all preban so I can't actually look at the way the AK-74 type brake is attached. If I remember correctly this type uses a tapered pin to hold it into place. The barrel is drilled along the bottom to accept the pin, the brake is then attached to the barrel and the pin driven in to lock the brake into place. The pin is then welded to make sure it stays put. With anything short of this the brake may well fly off when you fire the rifle.
I would imagine that you could grind off the weld and then drive out the pin and remove the brake. You'd still have the cross drilled hole in the bottom of the barrel however. Perhaps your new muzzel attachment would either cover this hole or use it for its own mounting pin. Some off these muzzel attachments are high temperature silver soldered and are pretty much non removable- you'd have to turn that type off of the barrel. It may be easier to simply purchase a new barrel with the type of muzzel brake you perfer already attached.
