pre civil war .22 short ammo box/tin??(ICONCLAST?)
i purchased a ROLLIN WHITE (made for S&W) 7 shot .22 short revolver for my father for x-mas.it is pre-civil war production. (many of you may have read or responded to my EXPERTS post on this gun). i am having a custom display case made for it to give him on fathers day.
it occured to me that i have not seen or handled a .22 short container of that era. i have seen boxes and tins for flobert`s, and shorts from the 1880`s and 1890`s, but none earlier. what does the typical pre-civil war container for .22 shorts look like (of american origin)??? other then S&W, who made them that early???
does anybody have one??? what are they worth??? any pic`s??? any information on this topic would be helpful. the gun seems to have been made the same year that .22 shorts were introduced. best regards, mike.

Mike, I will forward this question to two friends who are much more expert than I in the field of .22 ammo. I do have an original S&W .22 short, pre-Civil War. I'm not sure I've ever seen a box; might have been a packet - most (all?) ammo packaging prior to the first Spencer rounds were. Almost certainly it would be black ink on white / tan with embellishments regardless of the form. Tins are a European thing. Only time I've seen them used here was for musket caps and primers. 0
