Gilmore Red Dot

Looking to purchase a Gilmore Master Series Red Leader Red Dot scope from a friend's friend and want to know what is fair price. It's in very good shape. Includes rings and no box. Are these reliable?
Are the Leupold/Gilmore red dot's the same thing?

  $125 is a good price. I saw them somewhere recently for $179 new.

  I'm not sure the model, but a local gun shop had some Gilmores for $299, new, a while back.
