Kimber/Ruger barrel question

I am planning on buying two rifles in the near future; a Kimber 84M Classic and a Ruger 77 Compact. The two calibers I want is .260 Rem and 7mm-08 (both rifles are offered in both these calibers). The Kimber has a 22" barrel and the Ruger has a 16.5" barrel,......my question is,....which caliber is more likely to shoot "better" with the shorter barrel and which one with the longer barrel. I honestly don't have any preference for which gun I get in which caliber, I just really like those two rifles and want those two calibers because I don't already have them in my collection.
PS - I decided on the .270 WSM for my Striker pistol that I will also be buying soon, then no more gun buys until next year!!! Thanks for any and all comments!!!
