Sand Bag Rests Question.
Are Kolpin rifle rests anygood?Also how about the Hoppe's rifle rests? Thanks....Hunter

Both will do the job. The idea is to have an inert item on which to rest the rifle's forestock, which won't damage the stock when the rifle is fired, and won't go skidding off the shooting bench. A pile of several sandbags works as well, but is a little less portable. 0 -
I use the bags that shot came in (cloth is best) fill them with sand and seal. Cheap and work great. 0 -
Buy a couple 10 or 15lb. bags of Basmati rice in those tightly-woven burlap bags and use them with the rice in them,- unopened.
They work great. If you don't like them you can still eat the rice and then fill them with sand in zip-lok bags.0 -
I take old blue gene legs cut off close up the ends and fill with sand 0 -
I buy the bag-o-sand from Ace Hardware for ~$3.00 and use it for a front rest. I have the sling on my gun, and I wrap it under the sand bag, that way, the sling will catch a good deal of the recoil. Also, I can't remember who makes it, but there is a little mono-pod that clips to your rear sling swivel and using the sandbag/sling idea above, most of my guns can be fired without me even touching anything but the trigger (I wouldn't do this for anything above a .270 or so...).
The cheap sand bag is much cheaper than a custom bag, plus, I use it in my truck all winter long for traction in the snow. [;)]0
