Good grief! I am genuinely really sorry to hear of your bad luck with the Star Mod. B. This has got to be one of the truly outstanding combat pistols of all time, and it's unfortunate that you had a bad experience; but very lucky indeed that you were not hurt. You've probably nailed the problem--a badly oversized chamber. There is, however, the possibility that you had a defective round of some sort; gross overcharge of powder, oversized bullet, etc. Problem with this is that the round disappeared "downrange". I don't think I'd try another round, though. If your pistol appears otherwise undamaged I think I'd obtain a newly manufactured stainless barrel from Federal Arms Corp. If your magazine can't be restored to functional I'd try Triple K Mfg. for a replacement--I bought 3 from them several years ago. You also have the option of packing it up and returning it to S.O.G.; probably the best course of action.[:0]

Just a thought, but could you be shooting 380 (9mm kurtz) as apposed to 9mm parabellum? John

I might not always tell you the truth, but I will never lie to you!

is your Star marked "9x19" or 9 Para, or is it possible that it is chambered for 9mm Largo?

9X19 and 9 Para are the same cartridge. 9m/m Largos are marked 9m/m Largo.

i was surprised to read that you had a problem with a STAR. i have a STAR MODEL A in .38 super, and my father has shot his STAR MODEL B in 9mm heavily in the local pistol league. they both function flawlessly. we just got a STAR SUPER B in at the shop from SOG and when i stripped it down it appeared to be in superb shape. i would agree with the consensus that you my have a gun that is not a "9mm luger" . i hope you were not injured, and that the issue can be resolved by a gunsmith, or by SOG. best regards, mike.

Thanks for the input. SOG is replacing it. It appears that the feed ramp cut in the chamber is grossly oversized. I found that the relief extends about half way into the chamber which is much too deep. It might be an overzealous attempt to allow feeding of hollow points by the previous owner (south american). Good reason to always wear safety glasses. Got one nick deep enough to draw blood on right cheek and may be a while before I get rid of that flinchhhhh.
