Lab help

Any ideas on how to keep a 14 month old lab from digging under a fence? I have 150 feet of wood fence and 200 feet of chain link in my back yard. She does it when we are at work, so I can't catch her in the act.

  Had a Beagle that did the same thing..Finally had to put an Electrified Perimeter Wire around the Whole fence about 8" from the Fence and 8" above the Ground...Took about a week to get the idea across to Him...That He really did'nt want to get near the Wire.....He was a Slow Learner....

  PUT LEATHER "MITTENS" ON THE DOG. THE KIND USED FOR HUNTING IN THE STICKERS. CABALAS HAS THEM.

  An electrified perimeter fence is probably the most cost effective way to go. Another option is to get one of the invisible fences which works with a collar on the dog. For this option, you need to bury the wire around the perimeter and it is quite a bit more expensive.

  BC, Scotty's...I mean CptKirk's idea works very good, but also consider a 6'x6' prefab kennel for when you're not there. When you're at home, you can use a training collar and when away, the dog will become accustomed to being kenneled. Also, while in the kennel, the Lab won't be able to destroy the rest of your yard. I've had the house, waterhose, aluminum pans, hammock, gas grill, chewed on, and even a rose bush pulled (not dug) out of the ground. I don't know how they can do it but they do. Good Luck!

  Thanks for your help guys. I will probably go the kennel route. Fortunately this is her worst vice - so far. We've been able to control the chewing by allowing her to chew certain things and scolding her when she chews things she shouldn't. One thing I will pass on is once she digs a hole, I refill it, then place a pile of her poop on top and lightly cover it with dirt. She never goes back to that hole again.

  HUMMP, AND TO THINK, I POURED CONCRET 3' BACK FROM THE FENCE ALL THE WAY AROUND! BOY WAS I DUMB. ELECTRIC FENCE, THATS THE WAY TO GO, BOY ALL THESE NEW GIZMOS![xx(]
