Thanks for the input guys. By "very big bears" and "way up north" I meant Canada and Brown. I was being vague. I didn't know if I'd get posts reminding me that handguns are not legal for average folk in Canada. My buddy is Canadian. Truth is, he probably won't even get a handgun at all, because he would have to hide to practice with it. Anyway, thanks for the input.

  Yeah, I am not sure which would be worse... mauled by a bear, or by the gun hating courts/media...
  
  It doesn't matter what you shoot, just shoot it well...
