I would go with the Springfield because I don't like Colt's 80 series internal safety system. If you upgrade to gun, the Springfield will be easier to modify.

The Colt will always be more money, and will always be worth more. I believe that the mil spec recreation from Colt has the Pre-80 series firing system.

From what I hear about the springfield, it is just fine. You may also want to find a Sistema Colt, whcih is made on Colt machinery, under the blessing and license of Colt, in argentina. Used ones can be had for $300.00. Those are supposed to be very good as well. If you aren't getting a "Colt", why not get the Sistema?

I disagree with the series 80 naysayers. I think its a good idea to have a gun that fires only when you pull the trigger. Believe me, the last thing you need is to drop the pistol and have the pin shoot forward and hurt someone.

Thanks for the info. I have seen a "Sist. Colt 1911" on auction and I had no idea what the "Sist." was. I'm in the process of saving money for it so I've got some time to think about it.

Better to have and not need, than need and not have.
