WRF stands for Winchester Rimfire and was introduced along with the Model 1890 rifle.

"CARTRIDGES OF THE WORLD", lists the 22 WRF as being chambered in various Remington, Stevens & Winchester rifles and Colt revolvers. It was the forerunner of the 22 WMR and can be fired safety in any firearm chambered for the 22 WMR. Although the 22 WMR can't be fired in guns originally chambered for the 22 WRF, as it's .180 longer.

If I remember right,it is also know as the 22 Remington Special.Later in 1959 it grew into the 22 WRM(Winchester Rimfire Magnum)or most offen called the 22 Magnum.

Dr. Evil, the "Remington Special" designation is correct. You will only see this on Remington and Peters boxes, however, and usually parenthetically, subordinate to the WRF terminology.

The last time Winchester made a run of .22cal.WRF I was able to purchase some ammo from an individual. Would any of you Gentlemen know when or if Winchester might produce another run of WRF and if so how can you go about purchasing.

CCI still makes 22WRF ammo, I use it in my Winchester 1890, the price is not bad around 6.00 for a box of 50.
So you don't have to pay a premiun price unless you picked up the old stuff sold for collectors.

Guns don't have fingerprints; they have signatures that can be changed in a moment.
