Reblueing or Recoating?

There is blueing or black on most guns and there is that kind of multi color coating. Is there a way to redo the coating?

I think the multicolor you talking about is Color Case Hardened.

And assuming,leeblackman, is right, then the answer is, no. Colour case hardening is done with heat, sometimes bones and time. It can't be re-done with a chemical. Rebluing is easy. Just get a bottle of gun bluing, CLEAN(degrease completely and keep you fingers off the steel) the steel and apply the bluing. It's not the same as factory bluing though.

Coloring of aluminum is often done by a process called anodizing. As far as I know it is something that depends on elaborate shop or factory facilities. As stated above case hardening is done by shop formulas that can involve heat, oil, carbon, water, etc. and is offered as a service by many gunsmith shops. It is possible to color iron and steel by heating and blobbing on cold blue solution. It wont really duplicate color case hardening but looks better than just bare metal. Heat to where it will cause water to sizzle when blobbed on (touched briefly) with a small wad of paper towel or rag. Strongly recco doing it on scrap to get a bit of experience, as the result depends much on how you do it. Hope this helps.

Just in case.....if your gun has collector value, any attempt to refurbish it will destroy that value.
