EAA Saiga users?
I have been checking out the EAA Saiga in .223 and 7.62X39 but don't know much about them. Are these guns accurate and reliable? The prices are low but is the quality good?

For the money, they are good guns. I have the short barrel 7.62x39. The overall grip of the gun takes a couple of shots to get used to. After that it's no problem. They use proprietary mags, although I have heard that you can modify the gun to accept other mags. The sights could be better, but it's not a target rifle. You could buy an SKS for less money, but you would spend just as much or more to get the sporter stock. The Saiga is based on the AK action. Most of the Saigas have a side rail that you can mount a scope to.
I have shot mine with out any mechanical problems. I have not really tested it for accuracy with a rest but it knocks the heck out of pie plates at 50yds.
I can't tell you about the 223 because I don't have one. I'm sure it will perfrom the same as the 7.62 gun. If you are looking for accuracy I would say go for a bolt action 223. If you are looking for a fun gun, again, these are not bad for the money.0 -
My friend bought one in 7.62x39. At the end of the summer I got to shoot down at "the rock" Buffaloe Rock Rifle Range in Illinois. Didn't do any bench shooting with it but found it to be just as accurate & fun as my sks. I was able to easily pop a laundry detergent container in the air 10 out of 10 times off the ground with it.[:D]
We put a good 300rds through it with no problems. He had the shorter version, which I would recommend. No experience with the 223 but too me I'd stick with the 7.62x39 -- ammo is much cheaper!
If anyone tells you that normal AK hicap mags will work in this gun, they are flat out lying. They will not work. The 10rd mags are just fine but I would buy a bunch of them & maybe get a mag clamp. For $200 or so I'm really tempted to get one and sell my sks.
Edit,
As far as reliabilty-- works great! And besides it's an AK! You could probaby take the top cover off, throw sand into the action, close, it and continue to shoot!

Listen, strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some aquatic ceremony. You can't expect to wield supreme executive power just because some watery tart throws a sword at you!0 -
