Model 1890 Windchester Rifle

I need any information that anyone can give on a gun.
It is Model 1890.....22 caliber rifle...Winchester....
In very good condition....all original no changes have been made to this gun. Based on 100% when new as far as the wood etc...goes....it rates a 80%....
Serial no. 564-890

I am looking for information in any form on this gun. I am also looking to find out its general value.

  Your rifle was made in around 1916 and was a very popular seller for Winchester right up until it was discontinued in 1931. Like all early Winchesters there is considerable collector interest, especially if it is as original and untouched as you say. Without looking at it I'd say this rifle would retail in the $700-800 range and I've seen them go for more at auction. A dealer would not match that amount since he'd be buying for resale. Most of these rifles have seen a lot of hard use with black powder ammunition and have either been rebarreled or sleeved. The nicer then condition and the closer to original it remains, the more value it will retain.

  Each model 1890 is caliber specific. Meaning you can only chamber the one 22 that it is made for. 22 short, long, long rifle or the WRF Winchester rim fire cartridge. 22 long rifle is the most collectible because of fewer being made. All 1890s were octagon barreled with metal buttplates and usually nice walnut stocks.
  
  mark christian is right on on the value, with any special order features making the value rise quickly. Winchester offered many options back then in finish, sights and about anything you wanted.
  
  An excellant reference book is Winchester Slide Action 22s volume 1
  Model 1890 and 1906 by Ned Schwing. Kind of costly but very complete.
  
  It sounds like a keeper to me.

  you have a third model 1890 which is the most common unless it is a 22 long rifle, which it is not by your serial #. round barrels on the 1890 were available in the late production guns. if you need more concise info get ned scwing's book, winchester slide action rifles, an excellent source of detailed info. ive been collecting 1890's for years and have 25 or so at the present time. your gun in 80% condition is easy to find at gun shows here in california for $400 or less. if you ever find a first model or early 2nd model in original 80% condition the price triples and doubles respectively. be real careful, 1890 addiction is hard to cure once it sets in.

  cody45, Yep.
  I have seen a lot of renewed interest around here lately and the prices seem to be going up. You are right about the round barrels and the L.R.s. Some of the late parts clean up guns are nearly hard to recognize with model 62 sights, stocks and barrels. I'm still waiting for that perfect affordable 1890 22lr to come along. I've seen them at the Tulsa show but they wanted to trade me for my truck and I wouldn't have had a way home.

  CCI just started putting out a new WRF hp. for about $6.00 a box. They look good, I bought some but haven't tried them yet. It seems that the Winchester runs of 1986 and 1994 are starting to command a little higher price at the gunshows.
