Will this barrel and choke combo work for turkeys
My 11/87 came with a 28 inch vent ribbed barrel, and I absolutely can not get used to it, it is just to darn long. I replaced the stock and forearm with a full camo one! Recently at the gun show in Rochester I purchased a 21 inch full camo cantilever barrel for it. I installed my xtra full rem choke and the gun feels so much better to me now!
Im planning on mounting a Holo sight on the gun and using it for turkeys, my question is will this 21 inch barrel and choke combination be sufficient for bringing down the big ole gobbler!

Now that Ive changed my shorts could somebody please point me in the direction of the nearest Privy!

It should be about perfect for chasing gobblers. No hanging up on brush, camo, perfect.

Hey pa,
that is a great setup
I have done the same with my 1100
Now you need to get 3 or 4 differant shell shot sizes and pattern that bad boy0 -
Yeah I agree; I patterned it with the 28 inch barrel and xtra full choke and I wasn't happy with the results. Can't wait till it warms up so I can experiment a little. I did go on the remington website and check things out they do have a turkey model 1187 in full camo with the 21" cantilever barrel with Rem choke. Suggested retail I believe was $895.
I picked up my camo stock and forearm on sale at wally world for around $45.00 dollars, I picked up the full camo cantilever barrel at a gun show for $150 with choke installed. The gun I won in a gun raffle. So I really do not have a whole lot in it!
I was so unhappy with the original gun that I was seriously thinking of purchasing a new full camo gun just for turkey! Now it is not necessary! Besides now that I have the cantilever choke barrel, I might even have to go next door to Ny and try hunting deer with some slugs!
Thanks for you replies and insight.

Hey I had an 870 pump with a 28 inch barrel cut down to 18 inches and a colonial choke system installed. It really works great. One thing the length of barrel does not control the pattern. I have taken 8 bearded birds with this gun with no problems it is a 3 inch mag and it shoots better than my charles daly semi in 31/2 inch mag at 50 yards. I never killed a bird past 30 though. I just patterned to see the comparison between 3 and 31/2 inch. My opion is i will never buy another 31/2 mag. That is what i have found. I am no expert but not a dummy either . 0
